What is Ocean Divide, Youth Unites?

“Oceans Divide, Youth Unites” involves NGOs from, Latin America (Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay) and EU (Hungary, Spain, United Kingdom).
Increasing unemployment amongst young people, in Europe and in Latin America, has made inclusion of youngsters into work more difficult, even for highly educated young people.

The aim of this project is to work with young people, from rural communities and minority backgrounds, who are struggling with unemployment. They will be trained to provide peer to peer learning through non-formal education methods to foster creativity, sense of initiative, entrepreneurship, and employability.
Voluntary work is one of the basic tools of enhancing social solidarity, social benefit and quality of life in a society. It provides important employment training and is a pathway into work.
20 youth workers and 120 youngsters from 6 countries will be trained to be multipliers for active citizenship on local level, with global horizons and develop activities in local youth work. They will be relying on the values of inclusion, diversity and sustainable development, in the framework of an international network of support.
Once the week seminar in Hungary is complete 2 participants from from each partner country will partake in a job shadowing exercise in another country. This will focus on the different realities of local youth work abroad. It will focus on a range of topics, such as inclusion, non-formal learning and project development. This will all contribute to a better quality of youth projects in the future. The job shadowers will receive training during this time to allow them to be more prepared around the issues of unemployment in their home countries.
This project will run over several months and all partner countries and participants will be involved during this time, working with their local communities to put into action what they have learnt.

Hungary here I come!

So after much waiting and anticipation I am finally off to the beautiful country of Hungary.

Eddie and myself (Amy), will be traveling over to Budapest on Sunday before heading to the picturesque area of Tagyon. To participate in the first part of the Oceans Divide training programme.

I will be posting frequent updates on the blog during our time out in Hungary, to inform everyone of the fantastic work and training we will be completing.
My next post will explain a little more about the purpose and the thinking behind the project and what we hope to achieve.

For now through I should focus on preparation for the training and of course packing. It looks set to be cold, shouldn't need the shorts.
