Food glorious food!

Well today we have been treated!! Myself, Andrea and Carmen visited two cooking schools today.
The first school was for young people aged 16-18. It focused on teaching the students how to make high quality english and french food as they look to find work in the food industry. When we arrived they were in the middle of making a strawberry cake. MUY BIEN!!

Here the students also learnt about stock management, health and safety in the kitchen as well as profit and loss. The second school was a lot different. It wasn't a school as such, more of a place to go to do extra curricular studies alongside primary and secondary school. These studies were more domestic based allowing students to gain valuable skills that could be used in the home and throughout their lives. The courses offered included cooking, textiles, art, furniture design and photography and these varied in length...some lasting one month and some lasting four years!

When we arrived we were greeted by lots of smiling faces...and the smell of chocolate coming from the kitchen...my favourite!! I met with todays students, some of which were disabled. The courses aimed to integrate these students into soceity as they visited restaurants as well as helping them gain skills for independence.

It was very moving to meet these students and see their enthusiasm toward something that they quite clearly loved.
Both schools are funded by the national government as they aim to upskill more young people to work in these types of industries.
